Kortikeral (Triamcinolone Acetonide, Salicylic Acid)

Kortikeral, a topical corticosteroid/keratolytic, is used to manage inflammatory and hyperkeratotic skin disorders.

• Triamcinolone acetonide binds to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, modulating gene transcription and suppressing the release of pro‑inflammatory cytokines, prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic by disrupting intercellular cohesion in the stratum corneum, enhancing exfoliation and facilitating deeper drug penetration. The combined actions result in reduced inflammation and accelerated removal of hyperkeratotic tissue.

• Occlusion: avoid occlusive dressings unless directed, as they increase systemic absorption.
• Pre‑existing infection: treat any bacterial, fungal or viral skin infection before initiating therapy.
• Sensitive skin: use with caution in patients with fragile or atopic skin prone to irritation.
• Store at room temperature below 25°C: keep in the original container, protect from moisture and light.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Concurrent systemic corticosteroids: may amplify systemic glucocorticoid effects and adrenal suppression.
• Occlusive dressings or bandages: significantly increase percutaneous absorption, raising risk of systemic side effects.
• Potent antiviral or immunomodulatory creams (e.g., imiquimod): may reduce efficacy of either product.
