Kreon (Pancreatin)

• Kreon is used to replace deficient pancreatic enzymes in conditions that cause exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

• Pancreatin contains a mixture of pancreatic lipase, amylase and protease enzymes. After oral administration, the enteric‑coated capsule resists gastric acid and releases the enzymes in the duodenum, where they supplement the patient’s deficient endogenous enzymes. The exogenous lipase hydrolyzes dietary triglycerides, amylase breaks down starches, and protease cleaves proteins, thereby facilitating normal digestion and absorption of nutrients. This enzymatic activity restores the balance of digestive processes that are compromised in exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

Pancreatin may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and related to gastrointestinal tolerance.

Common Side Effects
