Kreon (Pancreatin)

Kreon is used to replace deficient pancreatic enzymes in conditions causing exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

• Chronic pancreatitis: aids in the breakdown of dietary fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

• Pancreatin provides a mixture of lipases, proteases and amylases that are released in the small intestine after the enteric coating dissolves at intestinal pH. These exogenous enzymes supplement the deficient endogenous pancreatic secretions, facilitating hydrolysis of dietary fats, proteins and carbohydrates, thereby enhancing nutrient absorption.

Kreon may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and related to gastrointestinal tolerance.

Kreon can interact with other medications that affect gastric pH or fat digestion.
