Lacimen (Lacidipine)

Lacidipine is used to treat conditions related to elevated vascular resistance and high blood pressure.

• Essential hypertension: reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with primary hypertension.
• Isolated systolic hypertension: lowers elevated systolic pressure in older adults.
• Secondary hypertension: assists in blood pressure control when hypertension is due to other causes, as part of combination therapy.

• Lacidipine blocks L‑type calcium channels on vascular smooth‑muscle cells, preventing calcium influx that is necessary for contraction. This inhibition leads to relaxation of arterial smooth muscle, resulting in vasodilation, decreased peripheral vascular resistance, and ultimately a reduction in systemic blood pressure.
