Lamisildermgel (Terbinafine)

Terbinafine is an allylamine antifungal used to treat infections caused by dermatophyte fungi.

• Tinea corporis: clears the infection and reduces scaling and redness on the body.
• Tinea pedis: resolves foot fungal infection, relieving itching and maceration.
• Tinea cruris: eliminates groin fungal infection, improving skin integrity and comfort.

• Terbinafine acts by inhibiting the fungal enzyme squalene epoxidase, a key step in ergosterol biosynthesis. This blockade leads to accumulation of squalene, which is toxic to fungal cells, and a depletion of ergosterol, compromising the integrity of the cell membrane and resulting in fungal cell death. The selective inhibition spares human cells because the target enzyme is absent in mammalian cholesterol synthesis pathways, providing a favorable safety profile for topical application.

Topical terbinafine may cause local skin reactions and, rarely, systemic adverse events.

Common Side Effects

• Burning sensation: mild, transient feeling at the application site that usually resolves without treatment.
• Itching: localized pruritus that may develop during therapy and can be relieved with moisturizers.
• Redness: erythema around the treated area, often temporary and not a sign of infection.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction: swelling, hives, or difficulty breathing; seek medical help immediately.

• Stevens‑Johnson syndrome: rare, severe mucocutaneous reaction with skin detachment; discontinue use and obtain urgent medical attention.
