• Lansoprazole selectively and irreversibly binds to the H⁺/K⁺‑ATPase enzyme (the gastric proton pump) located on the secretory surface of parietal cells. By inhibiting this final step of acid production, it markedly lowers both basal and stimulated gastric acidity, allowing the gastrointestinal mucosa to heal and reducing reflux of acidic contents. The inhibition persists for up to 72 hours, providing prolonged acid suppression after a single dose.
