• Lansoprazole selectively and irreversibly binds to the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme (the gastric proton pump) located on the secretory surface of parietal cells. The inhibition persists for up to 72 hours because new enzyme synthesis is required for acid secretion to resume, allowing once‑daily dosing in most treatment regimens.
