Larynox (Benzydamine Hydrochloride)

Larynox, a benzydamine‑based NSAID, is used for inflammatory conditions of the upper throat and mouth.

• Sore throat: reduces pain, swelling and irritation in acute pharyngitis.
• Oral mucositis: alleviates discomfort and inflammation associated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
• Inflammatory conditions of the oropharynx: provides local anti‑inflammatory and antiseptic action for various non‑infectious throat inflammations.

• Benzydamine Hydrochloride exerts its local action by inhibiting the release of pro‑inflammatory cytokines such as IL‑1β and TNF‑α, stabilising cell membranes, and providing mild local anaesthetic activity. These actions collectively reduce inflammation, pain perception and microbial colonisation at the site of application in the oropharynx.

Larynox is generally well tolerated, but some users may experience local or systemic reactions.

Common Side Effects

• Taste alteration: transient metallic or bitter taste in the mouth.
• Mild burning or stinging: sensation at the site of application.
• Local irritation: redness or mild discomfort of the oral mucosa.
• Nausea: occasional feeling of queasiness after use.
• Dry mouth: temporary reduction in salivation.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Allergic reactions: rash, itching or urticaria.
• Angioedema: swelling of lips, tongue or face requiring immediate medical attention.
• Severe mucosal ulceration: persistent lesions in the oral cavity.
• Anaphylaxis: rare systemic hypersensitivity reaction.
• Persistent dysphagia: difficulty swallowing that does not resolve.
