Lattulosio Zentiva is an osmotic laxative that acts on the gastrointestinal tract to treat the following conditions:

• Hepatic encephalopathy: reduces intestinal ammonia production, helping improve mental status in patients with liver dysfunction.

• Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide that is not absorbed in the small intestine. In the colon, bacterial enzymes hydrolyze it to short‑chain fatty acids, increasing osmotic pressure and drawing water into the lumen. The resulting acidification of colonic contents converts ammonia to ammonium, which is less readily absorbed, thereby lowering systemic ammonia levels.
