Lax-Tab (Bisacodyl)

Bisacodyl acts on the gastrointestinal tract to relieve constipation and to facilitate bowel cleansing.

• Bisacodyl is a diphenylmethane derivative that acts locally on the colonic mucosa. It stimulates enteric nerves, enhancing smooth‑muscle contraction and increasing peristaltic activity. Additionally, it promotes secretion of water and electrolytes into the lumen, softening stool and facilitating its passage. The effect is primarily confined to the large intestine, with minimal systemic absorption.

Bisacodyl may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are related to its stimulant action on the bowel.
