This selective blockade reduces generation of fibrin clot while preserving a degree of thrombin activity, resulting in predictable anticoagulant effects with a lower risk of heparin‑induced thrombocytopenia compared with unfractionated heparin. The resulting anti‑Xa activity provides a dose‑dependent anticoagulant response that can be monitored by plasma anti‑Xa levels when necessary.
