Lercanidipine Accord (Lercanidipine Hydrochloride)

Lercanidipine is a calcium channel blocker used to manage hypertension, a condition characterized by elevated arterial pressure.

• Hypertension: lowers elevated blood pressure and helps maintain target blood pressure levels in adult patients.

• Lercanidipine selectively inhibits L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, reducing calcium influx. This leads to relaxation of arterial smooth muscle, vasodilation, and a consequent decrease in peripheral vascular resistance, which lowers systemic arterial blood pressure.

Lercanidipine may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.

Common Side Effects

• Headache: mild to moderate headache, often transient.
• Flushing: sensation of warmth and redness, especially on the face.
• Peripheral edema: swelling of the ankles or lower legs.
• Dizziness: light‑headedness, particularly after standing.
