• Drospirenone/ethinylestradiol works by suppressing the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle‑stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary, thereby preventing ovulation. The progestogenic component also thickens cervical mucus, making it hostile to sperm, while the estrogen component stabilises the endometrial lining to reduce breakthrough bleeding and inhibit implantation.
