Levalox (Levofloxacin)

Levofloxacin is indicated for several bacterial infections affecting different organ systems.

• Community‑acquired respiratory tract infection: effective in eradicating the pathogen and improving respiratory symptoms.
• Urinary tract infection: clears infection and relieves dysuria and frequency.
• Skin and soft tissue infection: resolves cellulitis, abscesses and related inflammation.
• Acute bacterial sinusitis: reduces sinus inflammation and promotes drainage.
• Complicated intra‑abdominal infection: combats mixed bacterial flora and supports recovery after surgery.

• Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. By binding to these targets, it prevents the unwinding and resealing of DNA strands, leading to bacterial cell death and suppression of bacterial proliferation.

Levofloxacin may cause a range of adverse reactions.

Common Side Effects

• Nausea: mild to moderate stomach upset.
• Diarrhea: loose stools, sometimes watery.

• Tendon rupture: sudden pain and loss of function, especially in the Achilles tendon.

• Clostridioides difficile infection: severe colitis with watery diarrhea.
