• Levetiracetam binds to the synaptic vesicle protein SV2A, a key regulator of neurotransmitter release. This interaction modulates vesicle exocytosis, stabilising neuronal firing and lowering the likelihood of abnormal electrical discharges that trigger seizures. The precise downstream pathways remain under investigation, but the SV2A binding is considered central to its antiepileptic effect.
