Levocetirizine is a second‑generation antihistamine used to manage histamine‑driven allergic conditions.

• Allergic rhinitis: reduces nasal congestion, sneezing, itching and rhinorrhea.

• Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis: eases eye itching, redness and tearing.

• Levocetirizine acts as a selective peripheral H1‑receptor antagonist. By binding to the H1 histamine receptor on mast cells, basophils and other target cells, it blocks the action of endogenous histamine, preventing the cascade that leads to increased vascular permeability, edema, pruritus and bronchoconstriction. The high receptor affinity and limited penetration of the blood‑brain barrier result in effective peripheral antihistaminic activity with minimal central sedation.

Levocetirizine is generally well tolerated, but adverse reactions can occur.
