Levofloxacin is indicated for several bacterial infections affecting different organ systems.

• Urinary tract infections: eradicates susceptible uropathogens and resolves symptoms.

• Skin and soft‑tissue infections: treats cellulitis, abscesses and other dermal infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

• Complicated intra‑abdominal infections: targets mixed aerobic and anaerobic flora in severe abdominal sepsis.

• Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA supercoiling and replication. By stabilizing the DNA‑enzyme complex, it prevents DNA strand separation, halting bacterial replication and transcription, leading to bacterial cell death. This bactericidal activity is broad‑spectrum against Gram‑negative and Gram‑positive organisms.

Levofloxacin may cause a range of adverse reactions, from mild to severe.

Common Side Effects
