Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for bacterial infections of the eye. It is indicated for:

• Bacterial conjunctivitis: reduces bacterial load and speeds symptom relief.
• Bacterial keratitis: eradicates causative organisms and promotes corneal healing.
• Blepharitis caused by susceptible bacteria: diminishes inflammation and prevents recurrence.

• Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. By blocking these targets, the drug prevents bacterial cell division and leads to bacterial cell death, providing a bactericidal effect against susceptible ocular pathogens.
