Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for several bacterial infections.

• Community‑acquired pneumonia: effective treatment of susceptible strains, reducing disease severity.
• Acute bacterial sinusitis: eradicates the causative pathogens and relieves sinus inflammation.
• Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: shortens the duration of exacerbation and improves lung function.

• Levofloxacin exerts a bactericidal effect by binding to bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. This inhibition prevents the supercoiling and separation of DNA strands required for replication and transcription, leading to rapid bacterial cell death in susceptible organisms.

Levofloxacin may cause a range of adverse reactions, from mild to severe.
