Levofloxacin Unimed Pharma (Levofloxacin Hemihydrate)

Levofloxacin ocular solution is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the eye.

• Bacterial conjunctivitis: reduces bacterial load and accelerates resolution of infection.
• Bacterial keratitis: eradicates causative organisms and promotes corneal healing.
• Other susceptible ocular infections: provides targeted antibacterial activity for less common eye infections caused by susceptible strains.

• Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription and repair. By binding to the quinolone‑resistance‑determining region of these enzymes, it prevents the supercoiling and relaxation of bacterial DNA, leading to inhibition of bacterial cell division and ultimately bacterial death. The drug achieves high concentrations in ocular tissues when administered as an eye solution.

Levofloxacin eye drops may cause local and systemic adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.
