Levoftal (levofloxacin) is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial indicated for bacterial infections of the eye.

• Levofloxacin exerts its antibacterial activity by binding to bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA supercoiling and replication. Inhibition of these enzymes blocks DNA synthesis and transcription, leading to bacterial cell death. The drug penetrates ocular tissues after topical application, achieving concentrations sufficient to inhibit a broad spectrum of Gram‑negative and Gram‑positive bacteria.
