Levosimendan is used in the management of heart failure, acting as a calcium sensitizer to improve cardiac performance.

• Levosimendan binds to cardiac troponin C, increasing its sensitivity to calcium and thereby strengthening myocardial contraction without raising intracellular calcium levels. Simultaneously, it opens ATP‑sensitive potassium channels in vascular smooth muscle, causing arterial and venous vasodilation, which reduces preload and afterload and improves overall cardiac output.
