• Levosimendan is used in the management of severe cardiac conditions where enhanced contractility and vasodilation are required.

• Levosimendan binds to cardiac troponin C, increasing its sensitivity to calcium and thereby enhancing myocardial contractility without raising intracellular calcium concentrations. Simultaneously, it opens ATP‑sensitive potassium channels in vascular smooth muscle, causing arterial and venous vasodilation, which reduces cardiac preload and afterload and improves overall cardiac performance.
