• Levosimendan binds to troponin C in cardiac myocytes, increasing the sensitivity of the contractile apparatus to existing calcium ions, thereby augmenting contractility without raising intracellular calcium levels. Simultaneously, it opens ATP‑sensitive potassium channels in vascular smooth muscle, causing arterial and venous dilation, which reduces cardiac preload and afterload and improves overall cardiac performance.
