Levotuss (Levodropropizine)

Levodropropizine is used as an oral antitussive to manage coughs arising from irritation of the respiratory tract.

• Dry cough: reduces frequency and intensity of non‑productive cough episodes.
• Post‑viral cough: helps alleviate lingering cough after upper respiratory infections.
• Allergic cough: mitigates cough triggered by allergic airway irritation.

• Levodropropizine acts peripherally on sensory C‑fibers located in the mucosa of the respiratory tract. By inhibiting the afferent limb of the cough reflex, it decreases the transmission of irritant signals to the cough centre in the brainstem, thereby lowering the urge to cough without depressing central respiratory drive. The drug does not cross the blood‑brain barrier in significant amounts, which contributes to its favorable safety profile compared with centrally acting cough suppressants.

Levodropropizine is generally well tolerated, but some patients may experience adverse reactions.
