• Levofloxacin exerts its antibacterial activity by binding to bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. This inhibition prevents the supercoiling and resealing of DNA strands required for replication and transcription, leading to bactericidal effects against a broad spectrum of Gram‑negative and Gram‑positive organisms. The drug accumulates intracellularly, achieving concentrations that exceed the minimum inhibitory concentration for susceptible strains, and its activity is concentration‑dependent, enhancing bacterial kill with higher exposure.
