Liberel (Desogestrel, Ethinylestradiol)

Liberel, a combined oral contraceptive, is indicated for hormonal contraception to prevent pregnancy.

• Liberel contains the estrogen ethinylestradiol and the progestogen desogestrel. Ethinylestradiol binds to estrogen receptors while desogestrel binds to progesterone receptors, together suppressing the hypothalamic‑pituitary‑gonadal axis. This inhibition prevents the mid‑cycle surge of luteinizing hormone and follicle‑stimulating hormone, thereby blocking ovulation. In addition, the progestogen thickens cervical mucus and the estrogen component induces endometrial changes that are unfavorable for implantation.
