• Celecoxib selectively inhibits the cyclooxygenase‑2 (COX‑2) enzyme, which is responsible for converting arachidonic acid to prostaglandins that mediate inflammation, pain and fever. By sparing COX‑1 activity, it preserves protective gastric prostaglandins while reducing pathological prostaglandin synthesis at sites of inflammation, resulting in analgesic and anti‑inflammatory effects.
