Licobondrat (Ibandronic Acid) acts on bone metabolism to reduce excessive bone resorption in several skeletal disorders.

• Ibandronic Acid binds selectively to hydroxyapatite crystals at sites of active bone remodeling. When osteoclasts attach to the drug‑coated bone surface, the bisphosphonate is internalized, inhibiting the mevalonate pathway and preventing prenylation of small G‑proteins. This induces osteoclast apoptosis and markedly reduces bone resorption, allowing bone formation to predominate and increasing overall skeletal strength. The effect persists for weeks after dosing, providing sustained inhibition of bone turnover.
