Lidbree (Lidocaine)

Lidbree is a local anesthetic that acts on the uterine mucosa to reduce procedural pain.

• Hysteroscopic procedures: provides local anesthesia to minimize discomfort during diagnostic or operative hysteroscopy.
• Intrauterine device (IUD) insertion: numbs the uterine cavity to facilitate painless placement of an IUD.
• Uterine curettage: offers pain control during suction or sharp curettage of the endometrium.

• Lidocaine blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, preventing the initiation and propagation of action potentials. By stabilizing the neuronal membrane, it inhibits nerve impulse conduction in the uterine tissue, resulting in localized loss of sensation without affecting systemic motor function.

Lidbree may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and transient.

Common Side Effects

• Uterine cramping: mild to moderate contractions after administration.
• Vaginal spotting or bleeding: transient post‑procedure discharge.
• Nausea: occasional feeling of queasiness.
• Headache: mild tension‑type headache.
• Dizziness: brief light‑headedness.
• Local irritation: burning or stinging at the application site.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Allergic reaction: rash, itching, swelling, or anaphylaxis.
• Cardiovascular toxicity: arrhythmias, hypotension, or cardiac arrest.
• Central nervous system toxicity: seizures or severe confusion.
• Methemoglobinemia: reduced oxygen‑carrying capacity of blood.
• Severe uterine perforation: rare but serious complication.
• Persistent severe pain: may indicate inadequate anesthesia or complication.

When using Lidbree, clinicians should observe the following precautions.

• Allergy assessment: confirm no known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or amide‑type anesthetics.
• Cardiovascular status: evaluate for existing arrhythmias or heart block before administration.
• Dosage limits: adhere to recommended intrauterine concentrations to avoid systemic toxicity.
• Pregnancy considerations: use only when benefit outweighs potential risk to the fetus.
• Concomitant CNS depressants: monitor patients receiving other agents that may potentiate sedation.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep in original container, protect from moisture and direct light.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Class I antiarrhythmics (e.g., quinidine, procainamide): additive cardiac toxicity.
• Amiodarone: may increase lidocaine plasma levels and risk of toxicity.
• Cimetidine: reduces hepatic clearance, raising systemic exposure.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• Epinephrine: can increase systemic absorption, requiring dose adjustment.
• Other local anesthetics: cumulative toxicity risk if used concurrently.
• Alcohol: enhances central nervous system depression.
• CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole): may modestly raise lidocaine levels.
