Lidbree (Lidocaine)

Lidbree, containing lidocaine, is employed for intrauterine anesthesia across several gynecologic procedures.

• Hysteroscopic surgery: provides analgesia to enable comfortable visualization and operative manipulation.
• Intrauterine device (IUD) insertion: reduces insertion‑related pain and cramping.
• Endometrial biopsy: numbs the uterine lining to minimize discomfort during tissue sampling.

• Lidocaine blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, stabilising the inactive state of the channel and preventing depolarisation. By inhibiting the rapid influx of sodium ions, it stops the generation and propagation of action potentials in peripheral nerves, resulting in a reversible loss of sensation in the treated uterine tissue. The effect is concentration‑dependent and reversible as the drug diffuses away from the nerve fibers.

Lidbree may be associated with a range of adverse reactions, which are categorised by frequency and severity.

Common Side Effects

• Uterine cramping: mild to moderate transient pain during or after administration.
• Vaginal spotting or discharge: light bleeding for a short period.
• Dizziness or light‑headedness: transient sensation of faintness.
• Nausea: occasional mild stomach upset.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Allergic reaction: rash, itching, swelling, or anaphylaxis requiring immediate medical attention.
• Cardiovascular toxicity: arrhythmias, hypotension, or cardiac arrest in cases of systemic absorption.
• Neurological events: seizures or central nervous system depression.
