Lidocain Egis (Lidocaine Hydrochloride)

Lidocain Egis is an amide‑type local anesthetic that acts on nerve membranes and cardiac tissue. It is employed in several clinical settings:

• Local anesthesia: produces reversible numbness for minor surgical, dental or dermatologic procedures.
• Ventricular arrhythmias: stabilises cardiac rhythm during acute ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation.
• Procedural sedation: facilitates patient comfort during short invasive interventions.

• Lidocaine blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels on neuronal and cardiac cell membranes, preventing the rapid influx of sodium ions required for depolarisation. This stabilises the membrane, inhibits initiation and propagation of action potentials, and thereby produces loss of sensation in peripheral nerves and suppresses abnormal cardiac electrical activity.

Lidocain Egis may cause a range of adverse reactions. Most are mild and reversible, but serious events can occur.

Common Side Effects

• Dizziness: transient light‑headedness during or after administration.
• Metallic taste: brief sensation in the mouth.
• Numbness or tingling: localized paraesthesia at the injection site.
• Hypotension: mild drop in blood pressure.
• Nausea: occasional upset stomach.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Seizures: central nervous system excitation at high plasma levels.
• Cardiac arrest: severe depression of cardiac conduction.
• Anaphylaxis: rare severe allergic reaction.
• Methemoglobinemia: abnormal hemoglobin causing cyanosis.
• Respiratory depression: reduced breathing effort.

When using Lidocain Egis, clinicians should observe several safety measures:

• Allergy assessment: avoid if the patient has known hypersensitivity to amide‑type local anesthetics.
• Cardiovascular monitoring: watch for arrhythmias, bradycardia or hypotension during infusion.
• CNS monitoring: be alert for signs of toxicity such as tinnitus, metallic taste or seizures.
• Dose calculation: ensure total administered dose does not exceed recommended maximum limits.
• Pregnancy considerations: limited data; use only if benefits outweigh potential risks.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep in original container, protect from light and moisture.

Lidocain Egis can interact with other medicines that affect its plasma concentration or cardiac effects.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Class I antiarrhythmics (e.g., quinidine, procainamide): may raise lidocaine levels and increase toxicity risk.
• Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin): can elevate systemic exposure.

Moderate Interactions (Monitor Closely)

• Beta‑blockers: may enhance cardiac depressant effects.
• Diuretics: may alter protein binding and affect free lidocaine concentration.
• General anesthetics (e.g., propofol, volatile agents): additive central nervous system depression.
