Lidocain Walter Ritter (Lidocaine)

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic used to numb skin and mucous membranes.

• Skin and mucous membrane anesthesia: provides temporary loss of sensation for minor procedures.
• Relief of minor pain: reduces discomfort from superficial injuries or irritations.
• Itching and irritation relief: alleviates pruritus associated with minor dermatologic conditions.

• Lidocaine reversibly blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, stabilising the neuronal membrane and preventing the initiation and propagation of nerve impulses. This inhibition of sodium influx halts depolarisation, producing a reversible loss of sensation in the applied area.

Local application of lidocaine can be associated with several adverse reactions.

Common Side Effects

• Skin irritation or erythema at the application site
• Burning or stinging sensation
• Mild itching or pruritus
• Localized edema or swelling
• Hypersensitivity rash
• Transient numbness beyond the intended area

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Systemic toxicity presenting as CNS symptoms (dizziness, seizures) or cardiac arrhythmias
• Severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis
• Methemoglobinemia
• Stevens‑Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis
• Severe dermatitis or ulceration of the skin

When using Lidocain Walter Ritter, consider the following precautions.

• Allergy assessment: verify no known lidocaine hypersensitivity.
• Application area: limit to intact skin and avoid mucosal lesions.
• Quantity limitation: do not exceed the recommended surface area.
• Concurrent anesthetics: avoid using multiple topical anesthetics simultaneously.
• Cardiac conditions: use cautiously in patients with conduction disorders or severe heart disease.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep in the original container, protect from moisture and light.

Major Interactions (Avoid)

• Class I antiarrhythmics (e.g., quinidine, procainamide): may increase systemic toxicity.
• Beta‑blockers (e.g., propranolol) when used with high doses: can potentiate cardiac effects.
• Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole): may raise lidocaine plasma levels.
