• Lidocaine blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, stabilizing the inactive state of the channel and preventing depolarization. By inhibiting the rapid influx of sodium ions, it stops the generation and propagation of nerve impulses, resulting in reversible loss of sensation in the applied area. The effect is concentration‑dependent and reversible, allowing normal sensation to return as the drug is metabolized and cleared from the tissue.
