Likozam (Clobazam)

• Clobazam is used in the management of seizure disorders within the epilepsy disease family.

• Clobazam acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA‑A receptor complex. By binding to a distinct site on the receptor, it enhances the inhibitory effect of the neurotransmitter GABA, increasing chloride ion influx and hyperpolarizing neuronal membranes, which reduces neuronal excitability and helps control seizure activity.

Common Side Effects

• Drowsiness: feeling unusually sleepy or fatigued.
• Dizziness: sensation of light‑headedness or unsteadiness.
• Ataxia: impaired coordination and balance.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe depression or suicidal thoughts: mood changes requiring immediate medical attention.

• Severe skin reactions: rash, Stevens‑Johnson syndrome, or toxic epidermal necrolysis.
• Blood dyscrasias: unusual bleeding or low blood cell counts.
• Hepatic dysfunction: signs of liver injury such as jaundice.
• Anaphylaxis: rare allergic reaction with swelling, hives, or difficulty breathing.
