Linagliptina Alter (Linagliptin)

Linagliptin is a DPP‑4 inhibitor used to treat disorders of glucose metabolism, primarily type 2 diabetes mellitus.

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus: lowers fasting and post‑prandial blood glucose levels.
• Monotherapy in type 2 diabetes: reduces HbA1c when diet and exercise are insufficient.

• Linagliptin selectively inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase‑4 (DPP‑4), which degrades the incretin hormones GLP‑1 and GIP. By preventing this degradation, linagliptin increases circulating levels of GLP‑1 and GIP, enhancing glucose‑dependent insulin secretion, reducing glucagon release, and ultimately improving post‑prandial and fasting glucose control.

Linagliptin is generally well tolerated, but adverse reactions can occur.

Common Side Effects

• Nasopharyngitis: mild upper respiratory tract infection.
