Indications & Clinical Uses

Mibg (I-123) Curiumpharma is used in nuclear medicine imaging of catecholamine‑producing tumors and cardiac sympathetic pathways.

  • Pheochromocytoma: provides high‑resolution scintigraphic images to locate catecholamine‑secreting adrenal tumors.
  • Neuroblastoma: enables detection and staging of sympathetic‑origin neuroblastoma lesions in pediatric patients.
  • Cardiac sympathetic innervation assessment: visualizes myocardial sympathetic nerve distribution to evaluate heart failure or arrhythmia risk.

How It Works

  • Iobenguane Sulfate I-123 is a structural analogue of norepinephrine that is actively taken up by norepinephrine transporters on adrenergic nerve terminals and chromaffin cells. After intravenous administration, the radiolabelled compound accumulates in tissues expressing these transporters, allowing gamma‑camera detection of the I‑123 emissions and generation of functional images of neuroendocrine tumors and cardiac sympathetic innervation. The tracer also provides quantitative information on sympathetic activity.

Side Effects

Adverse reactions to Mibg (I-123) Curiumpharma are generally infrequent but may occur following intravenous administration.

Common Side Effects

  • Mild nausea
  • Transient flushing
