Indications & Clinical Uses

Mivacron, a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker, is used in clinical situations that require rapid and reversible skeletal muscle relaxation.

  • Endotracheal intubation: facilitates safe placement of the airway tube by providing short‑acting muscle relaxation.
  • Surgical procedures: provides skeletal muscle relaxation to improve operative conditions during general anesthesia.
  • Mechanical ventilation: serves as an adjunct to enable controlled ventilation in patients requiring respiratory support.

How It Works

  • Mivacurium chloride produces muscle relaxation by competitively binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the motor end‑plate of the neuromuscular junction. By blocking acetylcholine’s action, it prevents depolarization of the muscle fiber membrane, thereby inhibiting transmission of nerve impulses and producing a dose‑dependent, reversible paralysis of skeletal muscles. The effect onset is rapid, typically within one minute, and the duration is short because the drug is hydrolyzed by plasma pseudocholinesterase.

Side Effects

  • Mivacron may be associated with a range of adverse reactions
