Mupirocin selectively inhibits bacterial isoleucyl‑tRNA synthetase, preventing the attachment of isoleucine to its tRNA. Impetine® (mupirocin) offers a narrow spectrum of activity primarily against Gram‑positive organisms, including methicillin‑resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Compared with broader‑spectrum agents such as fusidic acid or bacitracin, mupirocin provides higher potency against resistant strains but is limited to specific indications and should be used as directed.
