Novopulmon Novolizer (Budesonide)

Novopulmon Novolizer contains budesonide, a corticosteroid that acts on the inflammatory pathway of the respiratory tract.

• Asthma: improves control of symptoms and reduces the frequency of exacerbations.
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): decreases airway inflammation and helps maintain lung function.
• Allergic rhinitis: alleviates nasal inflammation when used as directed for upper airway symptoms.

• Budesonide binds to glucocorticoid receptors in airway epithelial cells, modulating gene transcription to suppress pro‑inflammatory cytokines, reduce eosinophil activity, and increase anti‑inflammatory protein production, thereby decreasing airway swelling and hyper‑responsiveness.

Adverse reactions may occur with inhaled budesonide, ranging from mild to serious.

Common Side Effects

• Oral candidiasis: fungal infection of the mouth.
• Hoarseness: voice changes after inhalation.
• Throat irritation: mild discomfort in the throat.
• Cough: transient coughing after use.
• Upper respiratory tract infection: mild cold‑like symptoms.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Paradoxical bronchospasm: worsening of breathing difficulty.
• Adrenal suppression: reduced cortisol production with high‑dose or prolonged use.
• Pneumonia: infection of the lung tissue, especially in COPD patients.
• Glaucoma or cataract progression: increased intra‑ocular pressure.
• Systemic glucocorticoid effects: bruising, skin thinning, or growth retardation in children.

When using Novolizer, follow safety guidelines to minimise risks.

• Monitor lung function: assess response and adjust therapy as needed.
• Use a spacer: reduces oropharyngeal deposition and irritation.
• Rinse mouth after inhalation: helps prevent oral candidiasis.
