Indications & Clinical Uses

Novothyral is a thyroid hormone replacement that acts on the hypothalamic‑pituitary‑thyroid axis to restore normal metabolism.

  • Primary hypothyroidism: helps restore normal thyroid hormone levels and metabolic rate.
  • Secondary hypothyroidism: provides needed hormone when the pituitary fails to stimulate the thyroid.
  • Myxedema coma: used as part of emergency therapy to rapidly replace thyroid hormone.

How It Works

  • Novothyral provides both triiodothyronine (T3) and levothyroxine (T4), the two principal hormones produced by the thyroid gland. After oral absorption, T4 is converted to the active T3 form in peripheral tissues, where they bind nuclear thyroid hormone receptors, modulating gene transcription that regulates basal metabolic rate, protein synthesis, and growth.
