Nuovopan (Nefopam Hydrochloride)

Nuovopan is a non‑opioid analgesic that acts on the central pain‑modulation pathways to relieve discomfort.

• Post‑operative pain: helps reduce pain intensity after surgical procedures.
• Acute musculoskeletal pain: provides analgesia for injuries such as sprains, strains and contusions.
• Cancer‑related pain: used as part of a multimodal regimen to control moderate pain in oncology patients.

• Nefopam inhibits the re‑uptake of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine while also blocking voltage‑dependent sodium channels, resulting in reduced neuronal excitability and modulation of central pain pathways without interacting with opioid receptors.

Adverse reactions to nefopam are generally mild to moderate and vary with individual tolerance.

Common Side Effects

• Nausea: occasional upset stomach and urge to vomit.
• Sweating: increased perspiration without exertion.
• Dry mouth: reduced salivation leading to a sticky feeling.
• Dizziness: light‑headed sensation, especially when standing quickly.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Tachycardia: rapid heart rate that may require monitoring.

• Hepatotoxicity: abnormal liver enzyme elevations.
• Blood dyscrasias: rare changes in blood cell counts.

When prescribing neforpan, clinicians should assess patient history and monitor for specific risks.

• Renal impairment: adjust monitoring as drug is excreted renally.
• Hepatic dysfunction: use caution in patients with liver disease.
• Cardiovascular disease: observe for tachycardia or blood pressure changes.
• Seizure disorder: avoid or use with caution in individuals with a history of seizures.
• Concomitant MAO‑inhibitors: increased risk of hypertensive crisis.
