Nurofen Forte (Ibuprofen)

Nurofen Forte (ibuprofen) acts on inflammatory pathways to provide symptomatic relief in several common conditions.

• Headache: alleviates pain and improves daily functioning.
• Dental pain: reduces postoperative discomfort and swelling.
• Musculoskeletal pain: eases aches associated with strains, sprains and arthritis.
• Fever: lowers elevated body temperature in acute febrile states.
• Menstrual cramps: diminishes uterine cramping and associated pain.

• Ibuprofen inhibits cyclo‑oxygenase (COX‑1 and COX‑2) enzymes, decreasing the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. Reduced prostaglandin synthesis leads to diminished inflammation, pain signalling and fever generation at peripheral tissues and within the hypothalamic thermoregulatory centre.

Adverse reactions to ibuprofen may range from mild to severe and should be monitored during therapy.

• Renal monitoring: evaluate kidney function in those with existing renal impairment.
• Pregnancy and lactation: limit use to the shortest duration and lowest effective dose, if deemed necessary.
