Indications & Clinical Uses

Nurofen is an NSAID that reduces inflammation and pain across several common conditions.

  • Headache: provides relief from mild to moderate tension‑type headaches.
  • Dental pain: alleviates discomfort following dental procedures or toothache.
  • Musculoskeletal pain: reduces pain and stiffness associated with sprains, strains and minor joint injuries.
  • Fever: helps lower elevated body temperature in febrile adults and children.
  • Menstrual cramps: eases dysmenorrhoeic pain during menstruation.

How It Works

  • Ibuprofen inhibits cyclo‑oxygenase (COX‑1 and COX‑2) enzymes, decreasing the synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate inflammation, pain and fever. This reduction in prostaglandin levels leads to diminished peripheral sensitisation and central pain signalling, providing analgesic and antipyretic effects.

Adverse reactions to ibuprofen may vary from mild to severe.
