Indications & Clinical Uses

Nustendi is a combination lipid‑lowering therapy that targets cholesterol metabolism pathways.

  • Primary hypercholesterolemia: helps achieve further LDL‑cholesterol reduction when statins alone are insufficient.
  • Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: provides additional LDL‑cholesterol lowering in patients already on maximally tolerated statin therapy.
  • Mixed dyslipidemia: contributes to lowering of total cholesterol and non‑HDL cholesterol in patients with combined lipid abnormalities.

How It Works

  • Ezetimibe blocks the intestinal Niemann‑Pick C1‑like 1 (NPC1L1) transporter, reducing dietary and biliary cholesterol absorption. Bempedoic acid is a pro‑drug activated in the liver that inhibits ATP‑citrate lyase, a key enzyme upstream of HMG‑CoA reductase in the cholesterol synthesis pathway. Together, they decrease the influx and synthesis of cholesterol, leading to lower circulating low‑density lipoprotein (LDL) concentrations.
