Indications & Clinical Uses

Nystapol is an antifungal agent that acts on yeast and mould infections of the skin and mucous membranes.

  • Oral thrush: Reduces fungal load and promotes healing of oral candidiasis.
  • Diaper rash: Controls Candida overgrowth associated with irritant diaper dermatitis.
  • Intertriginous candidiasis: Relieves itching and erythema in skin folds.
  • Vaginal candidiasis: Alleviates discharge and discomfort caused by Candida species.
  • Cutaneous candidiasis: Treats localized skin infections caused by Candida.

How It Works

  • Nystatin binds to ergosterol, a sterol component of fungal cell membranes, creating pores that increase membrane permeability. This disruption leads to leakage of intracellular electrolytes and macromolecules, ultimately causing fungal cell death without significant effects on human cell membranes that lack ergosterol.
