Nystatin Galvex (Nystatin)

Nystatin Galvex is an antifungal medication that acts on yeast infections of the skin and mucous membranes.

• Oral thrush (candidiasis): Reduces fungal load and alleviates symptoms in the mouth and throat.
• Esophageal candidiasis: Helps clear fungal infection in the esophagus, improving swallowing and comfort.
• Cutaneous candidiasis: Treats skin infections caused by Candida species, reducing redness and irritation.

• Nystatin binds to ergosterol, a key sterol in fungal cell membranes, creating pores that increase membrane permeability. This leads to leakage of essential intracellular components, loss of cell viability, and ultimately fungal cell death. The action is selective for fungal cells because human cell membranes contain cholesterol rather than ergosterol.

Nystatin may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.
