Odrik (Trandolapril)

Trandolapril, an ACE inhibitor, is used to manage conditions related to the renin‑angiotensin system.

• Hypertension: lowers elevated blood pressure by reducing systemic vascular resistance.
• Heart failure: improves cardiac output and alleviates symptoms of fluid overload.
• Post‑myocardial infarction: helps prevent ventricular remodeling and reduces subsequent cardiovascular risk.

• Trandolapril selectively inhibits angiotensin‑converting enzyme, preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II. This results in vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, decreased sodium and water retention, and ultimately lower systemic blood pressure and reduced cardiac workload.

Common Side Effects

• Cough: a dry, persistent cough in some patients.
• Dizziness: often related to lowered blood pressure.
• Headache: mild to moderate intensity.
• Fatigue: general feeling of tiredness.
• Hyperkalemia: elevated serum potassium levels.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Angioedema: swelling of face, lips, tongue, or airway requiring immediate medical attention.
• Severe hypotension: marked drop in blood pressure, especially after the first dose.
• Acute renal impairment: sudden decrease in kidney function.
• Neutropenia: significant reduction in white blood cells.
• Hepatic dysfunction: abnormal liver enzyme elevations.

Trandolapril should be used with caution and under medical supervision.

• Blood pressure monitoring: check regularly to avoid excessive hypotension.
• Renal function assessment: evaluate serum creatinine and eGFR before and during therapy.
• Serum potassium: monitor to detect hyperkalemia, especially when combined with potassium‑sparing agents.
