Oftahist (Olopatadine)

Oftahist is an antihistamine that acts on ocular allergic reactions.

• Allergic conjunctivitis: reduces ocular itching, redness and swelling.
• Seasonal allergic eye disease: provides relief from seasonal pollen‑induced eye irritation.
• Vernal keratoconjunctivitis: helps alleviate mild symptoms when used as directed.
• Contact lens‑related irritation: lessens discomfort associated with allergic responses in lens wearers.

• Olopatadine blocks histamine H1 receptors on mast cells and other ocular surface cells, preventing the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators. It also exhibits mast‑cell stabilising activity, reducing the cascade of allergic inflammation that leads to itching, redness and swelling in the eye.

Side effects associated with ophthalmic olopatadine are generally mild and transient.

Common Side Effects

• Temporary burning or stinging sensation after instillation.
• Mild eye irritation or foreign‑body sensation.
• Slight blurred vision that resolves quickly.
• Mild headache.
• Redness unrelated to allergy.
• Tearing increased.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Persistent eye irritation or pain.
• Significant vision changes.
• Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to the formulation.
• Corneal ulceration.
• Ocular infection.
• Persistent intra‑ocular pressure rise.

When using Oftahist, follow standard ophthalmic safety guidelines.

• Avoid contact with contact lenses: remove lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
• Do not use if you are allergic to olopatine or any excipients.
• Monitor for worsening eye symptoms; seek medical advice if condition does not improve.
