Olmesartan/Amlodipine Clonmel (Amlodipine, Olmesartan)

Olmesartan/Amlodipine is used in the management of high blood pressure, acting on the renin‑angiotensin system and vascular smooth‑muscle tone.

• Hypertension: Provides additive blood‑pressure reduction when used as initial therapy or in combination with other agents.
• Hypertension with cardiovascular risk: Lowers systolic and diastolic pressures to reduce risk of stroke and myocardial infarction.
• Hypertension resistant to monotherapy: Offers an alternative when single‑drug therapy does not achieve target blood pressure.

• The combination pairs olmesartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker that selectively inhibits AT‑1 receptors, with amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium‑channel blocker that relaxes arterial smooth muscle. Together they reduce systemic vascular resistance and lower cardiac afterload, producing a synergistic antihypertensive effect.

Adverse reactions may occur with any antihypertensive regimen and should be monitored during therapy.

Common Side Effects

• Peripheral edema: mild swelling of the ankles or feet.

• Dizziness: especially upon standing quickly.

• Angio‑edema: rapid swelling of lips, tongue or airway.
• Severe hypotension: symptomatic low blood pressure.
• Hepatic dysfunction: abnormal liver enzymes.
• Acute kidney injury: sudden decline in renal function.

Before initiating therapy, consider patient‑specific factors and monitor appropriately.

• Renal impairment: adjust dose and monitor creatinine.

• Pregnancy: contraindicated; avoid use in women of childbearing potential.
